The Shinkickers have played their unique mix of blues, classic rock and celtic magic in Perth and Western Australia for the past 21 years.
Guitarist and founder Gerry Quigley is returning home to Ireland at the end of 2012 so on Saturday August 26th the band will play their last gig with the current lineup. August 26th 2012 will also mark the day which the band says thank-you and farewell to Jeni Shaw, band Manager for the past 6 years as an exciting new era begins for both Gerry Quigley and The Shinkickers.
Gerry is already busy organising venues and promotions for his own farewell tour including The Shinkickers with some original band members. There are farewell shows planned for December 7th, 8th and 11th at some special venues in the Perth Hills and Metro areas.
At around midnight on December 11th, 2012 Gerry and The Shinkickers will pack up their gear for the last time in 2012, but this time they will be wishing Gerry and each other all the best for the year ahead in 2013 as Gerry follows his dream and begins a new adventure.
After some 30 years in the Perth music scene, where he launched many successful bands including The Blarney Stones, Raggle-Taggle Gypsy, The Lark, and many more, the man who - along with his band Raggle Taggle Gypsy - once received a standing ovation at the Perth Concert Hall, The Shinkickers founder, writer and guitarist Gerry Quigley will fulfill his life-long dream and head home to Ireland at the end of 2012. On New Years Eve 2013, Gerry and his partner Sharon will begin a new life and a new adventure in the land which is calling Gerry home.
The cosmopolitan city of Dublin is Gerry's home town and Ireland is the magical place where he will launch his newest band, Gerry Quigley & The Nomadic Druids in 2013. Gerry Quigley & The Nomadic Druids also includes original Shinkicker Leroy Cleaver on Drums & Percussion, Jon Pitulej on Keyboards and Jon McNair on Base Guitar.
Gerry is playing his last farewell gig with The Shinkickers on Tuesday 11th December at the Perth Blues Club, Charles Hotel North Perth. The night will also feature Gerry Quigley & The Nomadic Druids with their debut performance and CD launch of their album titled Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow. (soon to be available on iTunes) Australian/Celtic folk band The Gang of Three will also be special guests on the night.
The Shinkickers musicians for the farewell gigs in December will include:
- Gerry Quigley: Guitar, slide guitar, mandola, bazouki, mandolin
- Terry Pugh: Hammond organ, piano, keyboard, accordion, vocals
- Pete Romano: Vocals, guitar
- Geoff Bushby: Vocals, harmonica
- Greg Thomson: Base guitar, vocals
- Leroy Cleaver: Drums
There could be special guest appearances on the night by past band members, anything is possible! For more information including details of Gerry's farewell gigs with The Shinkickers see Gerry's Gig Guide.
Although based in Ireland from 2013, Gerry is looking forward to returning to Perth for more gigs with The Shinkickers, where you can be sure there will be a surprise or three ...
Enjoy the music!
